July 28, 2008  Canoes Arrive at Cowichan, B.C. near Duncan, B.C. Canada. The largest-ever Tribal Journeys Canoe Voyage is set to mark the beginning of the 2008 Indigenous Games. As many as 80 to 100 traditional ocean-going canoes, from a variety of canoe cultures and nations, will make a two-week journey to Cowichan, travelling from as far north as the Alaskan border (Tlingket) and the Queen Charlotte Islands (Haida) and as far south as Oregon State. Arriving into Cowichan Bay, they will be received with a traditional Coast Salish Welcome. This will begin 4 days of protocol, singing, drumming, feasting, and gift giving.

Dates: Landing day is Monday, July 28th, 2008. at Hecate Park in Cowichan Bay.
Protocol will continue until
August 1, 2008. Cowichan Tribes will give their protocol on August 3 after the Opening Ceremonies for North American Indigenous Games, which Cowichan will host.

Wish i could of went on this joureny with you guys. this year i am going for sure and i cant wait for it even though i herd that its going to be a short trip. i dont get all the info about these kind of things like you guys do because i live down here in idaho but hopful i move up there soon to get the info that i need.
