Canoes delayed on take-off from Elwha / Port Angeles (Hollywood Beach).

Rough and dangerous waters deterred departure from Hollywood Beach, Port Angeles, WA from their Elwha stopover. (Some canoes may have gone on the water against advisories, but most either turned back, or did not leave the beach.)

Canoes will most likely trailer tomorrow, to Piller Point, their next designated stop.

More updates as they come in.

(Info per Lower Elwha Skipper, Phil Charles, Jr. at 7am.)

Losses in Upper Skagit and Samish

We grieve the loss of dear Vi Hilbert; a true model of strength, gentleness, humility and grace. We remember her fondly as an Educator, Storyteller, Historian, Preserver of the Language and Culture, Honored Elder and friend. Vi will be greatly missed in all the Tribal Communities. We love and admire Vi, and that could never change. Our prayers go out for family and all our people during this time of loss.

Vi passed, on Friday, December 19, 2008. The Wake will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, and Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27. Both will be located at the Upper Skagit gym. More info at: http://www.goskagit.com/home/article/upper_skagit_tribe_elder_dies/ , and http://www.grandmothersproject.org/2005_home/Taqseblu.pdf

Prayers also for the family of Mary Hansen of Samish Nation who passed on Wednesday. These are difficult times of sorrow and loss for our communities. Please keep each other in prayers all through the winter – for safety and health and all needed provisions.
